Planking

So I had the good fortune that one of my colleagues wanted to share some wood. However I needed to resaw it and put it away for drying.

I didn’t have a sled for resawing, so I started by creating one. Quite simply it’s a piece of 6mm plywood with a 6mm plywoodstrip for the guide in the bandsaw table. To make sure the sled ran fine after I gave it a squirt of WD40. It doesn’t really matter that the wood gets some on it since it will have to be planed down for use. The maple might be turned into a few pens for looks.

After creating the sled I went to town on to pieces. One was a maple, coming out quite nicely spalted and the other was a piece of plum tree. The one with the red markings is the plum tree and there is no doubt this will be amazing once it’s dried.

I am contemplating what to use it for – but I think I for sure will give back a custom marking guage to my donor.
